Finding Purpose with author and therapist Tim Klein
Award-winning educator, clinical therapist, and school counselor Tim Klein spoke to students, faculty, andparents in The Schiff Center about his research into the importance of purpose and belonging at the Creating Conversations event on Oct. 11. Klein is the co-author of “How to Navigate Life: The New Science of Finding Your Way in School, Career, & Beyond,” which is based on his research at the Purpose Lab at Boston College. He explained how having a purpose mindset, instead of a passion or performance mindset, can lead to greater happiness in life for students. “Purpose is living a life that is personally meaningful and contributes to the world beyond the self. What this means in practice is for students to have a goal or aspiration or future orientation that is personally meaningful to them and that they feel contributes to the world,” Klein said. The next Creating Conversations event will be Prevention at Home with Glenn Hall on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. Click here to learn more and register.
Stingers celebrate Diwali
With special treats, educational activities, and art, the Seven Hills community celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights. The Upper School Equity Council decorated Four Corners and provided treats and a henna artist for students on their way to class. The council also created an informational slideshow and a Kahoot about Diwali that students completed in their advisories. At Doherty, Unit I student Clark Patel taught his classmates about Diwali and how his family celebrates. Lauren Robinson’s pre-kindergarten for 2-year-olds students sprinkled flower petals on the rangoli drawn outside their classroom by the Unit III students. Lotspeich students made a rangoli outside the building, Sumitra Gupta, parent of fifth grader Nalini Gupta, shared the history of Diwali at the morning assembly, and Mona Desai taught first graders about the five days of Diwali. Thank you to Nupur Anand, Pretty Patel, Anantha Brahmamdam Juluri, and Avanti Vadivelu for providing a special lunch for the faculty and staff of the Hillsdale Campus and to the Ramineni family for providing lunch to the Doherty Campus.
