Lotspeich Showcases

Lotspeich kindergarten through fourth grade students performed their final drama scenes of the year for family and friends in early to mid-May. Every day for a week, the Red Barn became a professional theater, where the young actors could display their outstanding creativity, passion, and more. Each grade performed a different production, which included a comedic retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood” and Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are.” Bravo, Lotspeich drama students!

Instrumental concerts

The Schiff Center was filled with the sounds of violins, cellos, flutes, and much more in early May during the Middle School and Upper School concerts

The sixth grade ensemble played five arrangements, which included a crowd favorite, “Cantina Band” from “Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope.” Soon after, the seventh grade ensemble took to the stage, performing five songs from various genres. The eighth grade ensemble followed suit, showcasing their skills with songs like “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “Skyfall.”

During the Upper School concert, the symphonic ensemble played four arrangements: “Ghillie Dhu,” a James Bond theme, a tribute to Dave Brubeck, and “Carry on Wayward Son.” The contemporary ensemble played five arrangements, including “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Just the Two of Us,” “What I’d Say,” and finally, “Out of the Doghouse.”

The concerts were a fantastic culmination of a year of hard work. Congratulations to our student musicians and instrumental teacher, John Rising!

Middle School Choral Concert

On May 15, the Middle School choruses serenaded friends and family with a lovely array of songs. The sixth grade chorus performed five songs such as “Sutoku In,” which was Japanese folk song, and “Disco Fever,” a fun arrangement of different songs from the 1970s that embody the groovy disco spirit. The seventh and eighth grade chorus sang seven wonderful songs, including Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon;” “Bonse Aba,” which is a Zambian folk song; and “ABBA Gold,” which was a collection of ABBA songs. The concert concluded with a combined chorus performance of “Viva la Vida” to honor Head of School Chris Garten and all the incredible work he’s done during his 15 years at Seven Hills. Bravo to our wonderful performers and Middle and Upper School vocal music teacher Tina Kuhlman!

Arts Alive

The entire Seven Hills community celebrated the third annual Arts Alive festival on April 26! First through 12th grade students from both campuses showcased their artistic talents throughout the Hillsdale Campus. Family and friends enjoyed the incredible performances, arts and crafts, food trucks, and the remarkable demonstration of our students’ artistic visions. Thank you to our excellent Arts Boosters and volunteers for their hard work to make the event successful.
