Lotspeich Second Graders Design Yayoi Kusama-Inspired Pumpkins

Second graders in Sarah Hyland’s class explored the work of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known for her signature use of polka dots and often called the “Princess of Polka Dots.” Inspired by Kusama’s famous pumpkin art, the students painted their own pumpkin designs. After the base color dried, they used black acrylic markers to outline the pumpkins, color the stems, and add dots of various sizes. In an upcoming class, students will use a second color to add dots to their stems.
