Passing on Soccer Skills to Younger Stingers

When not besting the likes of other high school soccer teams in the city, the varsity boys and girls soccer teams show off their skills to a younger crowd and dip their boots into coaching with the weekend clinics.
On Saturdays in September and early October, the varsity soccer players and their coaches host clinics, known as the Kindergarten Kickers, to teach basic skills to Seven Hills’ youngest athletes.
“The weekend clinics focus on soccer skills and are aimed at introducing young students to the sport in a nurturing environment,” said Associate Athletic Director Brandon Williams.
The boys and girls teams split the duties of running the clinics. The varsity players coach the kindergartners through shooting, dribbling, and passing drills, and provide encouragement to give them a positive view of what playing a sport for Seven Hills can be like.
“It allows the varsity athletes to step into leadership roles, gain coaching experience, and serve as role models for the younger students. The clinics help build community and encourage a passion for soccer across different age groups,” Williams said.
The weekend clinics grew out of the popular sports clinics held each year at Homecoming, where the members of the varsity soccer, golf, volleyball, and cheerleading teams lead first through eighth graders in basic skills and beginner moves.
