Important skills I want to teach my students
My goal as a pre-k teacher is to foster curiosity and to help each student develop a sense of autonomy in the classroom.
Teaching methods to reach these goals
I believe that creating a safe, predictable, and fun learning environment promotes individual autonomy within our classroom community and sets each student up for success. I work to create a positive climate that encourages respect and independence. I provide opportunities for student choice throughout the day for exploration and self-discovery. Developmentally appropriate group lessons and an individualized, learner-based approach are used to help meet each of my student’s needs.
My favorite projects
Doherty has a wonderful tradition of devoting time every year to our Cultural Connections program. Each class from pre-k to Unit III chooses a country and explores a culture different from our own. After a few weeks of study, the class gets to take a pretend trip to the chosen country. We create individual and class projects based on our studies. We learn about how we are all the same and we are all different. The children seem to love this program and their enthusiasm is contagious! They can’t wait to share and show their families everything they learned about their focus country each year.
What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills
I am proud to belong to a school community that values academic excellence, best practices in education, community, and kindness. I have felt at home at Seven Hills since I arrived. I have daily support from my administration, my fellow team members and the families that I serve. I feel so lucky to be a part of such a special school.
