Important skills I want to teach my students
The most important skill I can teach my students is that they are in control of their learning. They have the capacity and freedom to make the academic choices that will allow them to be successful.
Teaching methods to reach these goals
I try to focus on a lot of executive functioning skills, breaking down big tasks into smaller tasks that are easier to accomplish. We also try to really plan out what tasks are upcoming so we can get an early start and avoid the last-minute rush to get things done.
My favorite projects
I really enjoy the seventh grade trip to Washington, D.C. I think giving young people the opportunity to see all of the great, and not so great history that is housed in D.C. gives the students a sense of relevancy that they would not otherwise get in a traditional classroom setting.
What I like best about teaching at Seven Hills
I love the sense of community that Seven Hills promotes. Even though the school has an extremely rigorous college preparatory academic environment, we never forget that students are the most important thing. This sense of purpose and community allows the students to reach their maximum potential.
